The Electricity of Viet Nam (EVN) plans to purchase 2.7 billion kWh of electricity from China in 2009 to meet domestic demand and allow national socio-economic development.
However, Chinese officials have asked the EVN to renegotiate the cost of the electricity due to recent fuel cost fluctuations and the instability of the RMB/USD exchange rate, said Nguyen Dinh Doan, Director of the EVN-owned Electricity Purchasing Company.
After concluding their negotiations later this month, China will make a decision regarding the amount of electricity to be sold to Vietnam , he added.
During this year, the EVN has purchased 3.5 billion kWh of electricity from China , up 31% against the previous year, at a fixed rate of 4.5 cents per kWh.
