Danang City embarked on the sisterhood with Pittsburgh city of Pennsylvania State under a memorandum signed at the office of the US city council on Dec. 2.
Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl said the memo marked a huge leap in relations between the two cities and successful, tireless efforts by “Friends of Danang” and “Pittsburgh Alliance” organizations of the US and the Vietnamese embassy.
He also talked of his firm belief that the Vietnamese central economic hub would become an important partner of his city.
Other Pittsburgh officials expressed expectation of drastic development in bilateral relations in a wide range of areas, especially economy, commerce, culture and education.
Their views were echoed by Charge d’Affairs of the Vietnamese embassy Nguyen Tien Minh, citing Danang’s great potential as well as the municipal Government and people’s efforts as favourable factors for bilateral relations.
The memorandum inked in Pittsburgh on Dec. 2 is just the first step to reach the sisterhood, which will be completed with the Danang People’s Committee Chairman signing the agreement during a Vietnam visit by a Pittsburgh delegation led by member of the Lower House Jason Almire.
The visit is scheduled for February next year.
The delegation will include businesspeople from the Pennsylvania State , who are hopeful of signing contracts with Danang partners.
