The Ministry of Industry and Trade has approved a design for the Thang Long Thermoelectric Plant with a capacity of 600 MW generated by two turbines.

The project is introduced by the Thang Long Thermo-power Joint Stock Company at an estimated cost of US$ 865.5 million.

The power plant will generate an additional 3.675 billion kWh every year.

To power the plant, about 2 million tonnes of coal from mines in Hon Gai, Cam Pha, Uong Bi and Vang Danh will be used each year for a total of 60 million tonnes in 30 years. The plant will also need about 6,000 tonnes of FO per year.

The first turbine will be activated in the fourth quarter of 2011 and the second in the second quarter of 2012.
