Viet Nam looks to Algeria for oil, agriculture investors

Viet Nam is eager for co-operation with Algeria in the areas of oil and gas, agriculture, health care and construction, and hopes that Algerian businesses will actively come to inquire into opportunities for co-operation and investment in the country, said President Nguyen Minh Triet.

President Triet made the statement while receiving Algerian Minister of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises and Handicrafts Mustafa Benbada yesterday. The Algerian Minister is attending the 8th meeting of the Viet Nam-Algeria Inter-governmental Committee that ends today in Ha Noi.

President Triet expressed his pleasure at the new developments in Viet Nam-Algeria economic and commercial co-operation along with fine bilateral political ties. He thanked the Algerian Government and people for their support for Viet Nam in the past struggle for national independence as well as current co-operation for development.

The leader affirmed that Viet Nam always attached importance to multifaceted co-operation with traditional friends, including Algeria.

The Algerian Minister said that the convention of meetings every two years by the Viet Nam-Algeria Inter-governmental Committee reflected the two governments’ political determination to promote economic and commercial co-operation.

He stressed that the Algerian Government placed importance on boosting economic and commercial ties with Viet Nam on a par with the two countries’ political relations.

He hoped that Viet Nam would actively take part in Algeria’s economic development programmes through direct investment or promotion of trade.

Vietnamese construction companies would be welcomed to invest in Algeria, the minister said. The two countries should diversify their respective forms of economic, commercial and investment co-operation, he added. (VNS)
