Vinacomin to buy coal from Indonesia and Australia

Under the direction of the Prime Minister, Viet Nam Coal and Mineral Industry Group (TKV) has sent survey delegations to Indonesia and Australia in order to quickly promote coal import for domestic thermoelectric power projects which are about to be put into operation.

TKV has signed framework contracts with two companies, namely PT Berau Indonesia and Maritime Hong Kong in Indonesia in order to import a total of 3.5 million tonnes of coal per year for the Vinh Tan 1 thermoelectric power project.

According to a proposal made by TKV, once the sources of import coal for the Vinh Tan 1 project are replaced by domestic sources, these import coal sources are reserved for the supply for the Nghi Son 2 thermoelectric power project.

TKV said that coal import becomes ever more difficult due to an ever increase in coal consumption and prices in the world.
