As part of the clean energy project, the Dutch Solar Serve and Multi-polytechnics University of Da Nang (MU Da Nang) presented 1,500 solar-powered cookers to locals of Quang Nam, Ninh Thuan and Da Nang city.
Apart from ensuring environmental sanitation, the progamme is also designed to protect forest resources. Forest destruction to get fire wood has become a critical issue, and narrowed forest acreage.
Vietnam has potential for the development of solar energy with annual solar capacity of about 1,400-2,000 hours in the north and 2,000-3,000 hours in the central region and the south.
Solar Serve is a non-profitable organisation funded by charitable individuals and organisations. Solar-powered cookers are produced at the cost of VND 300,000-VND 1 million each.
In the coming time, the body and MU Da Nang will implement a similar project in Quang tri province. (TBKTSG)
