New thermal power project to ease power shortage

Thai Nguyen province is looking to ease its chronic power shortage, a nationwide problem during the dry season, by licensing a new thermal power project with an annual capacity of 100 MW.

The project will be built on an area of 22.7 ha close to the Khanh Hoa coal mining field, allowing for convenient supply of fuel, said CEO of the Viet-Trung Electricity Joint Stock Company Nguyen Van Thang.

The company will join the Thai Nguyen Im-Ex and Investment Joint Stock Co to provide 70% of the total investment of the 2 trillion VND needed to build the project, with the remainder to come from the Vietnam Coal and Mineral Group.

Viet-Trung Electricity is currently completing the preparations for the construction, Thang said.

It is the second thermal power project licensed for construction in Thai Nguyen province, following the Cao Ngan plant.
